I was like WTH??!! That is a heritage site, man! Don't the people-in-charge know the importance of their existence~ Gosh...
Actually, this is not the first time the government wants to tear down historical buildings.
Before this, Pudu Prison, which was built in 1895 by the British, was demolished for the sake of development. The prison has many amazing stories behind it. A documentary about Pudu Prison was made and shown in Historical Channel before it was torn down. I wonder why the government did not value its importance.
I never get a chance to see how Pudu Prison looks like. Now, I can only reminisce it through pictures and past stories without the experience of actually being there. :(
We always pride ourselves for being a peaceful multiracial country. However, we are lagging behind in many aspects.
One of them is the awareness of protecting and preserving heritage sites. Let's just take the nearest example - Indonesia. Indonesia are taking steps to protect the Borobudur Temple, one of the ancient Buddhist temples which was built in the 8th century.
You may argue that the temple is worth preserved as it indirectly contributes to the country's development compared to the Pudu Prison.
Yup, I couldn't agree more to that. However, the government can make Pudu Prison as a tourism site. As mentioned before, the prison was built by the British, we can use this fact to attract foreign heritage lovers.
And there are rumours that the prison is haunted. Why don't we also use this to get the interest of ghost busters or people who just want to test their courage for a night? :P
Who knows, maybe one day, it will appear in the list of the most haunted places in the world.
None of this will become reality anymore, now they are just nonsense talks. =.=
